Kennedy_standing2Do you want to get your spine checked?

Hi, my name is Dr. Jerry Kennedy and I want to confess something…I hate spinal screenings. Unfortunately I have done plenty of them. And YES…I completely understand how they work. They can work really well if you are willing to do the dance. But I never liked them…not even a little bit. And in 9 years of practice, I tried just about anything that would help me grow my practice without having to stand out in front of Walgreens asking someone “Would you like to get your spine checked?” or “Do you know your posture number?” UGH!

Yep…I’ve done it…

Now I don’t mind saying, if it’s been done in chiropractic marketing…I’ve tried it. I don’t know of anything other than the Yellow Pages that  I haven’t tried and the only reason I never did that was because I’m not 100 years old and I don’t like wasting money. With that said, I’ve done tv commercials, radio commercials, tv interviews, hosted a radio show, wrote articles for the paper, done inserts, killer ads, free reports, lead generation, magazine articles, health talks, community wellness programs, dinner talks, new patient orientations, franchising,  newsletters, referral programs, patient appreciation days, fund raisers, email marketing, telemarketing, MD referral programs, Lawyer referral programs, webinars, facebook ads, search engine optimization, google ads and the list goes on and on and on.

No magic pill…

Over the years, I have learned a little something from my chiropractic marketing explorations. Some stuff works really well…some of it..not so much. And what works for one doctor, may not work for you.  Situations are different.  States and Towns are different. Doctor’s personalities are different.  You shouldn’t prejudge marketing. Just be willing to try it and go from there.  Oh…and one more thing…there is no silver bullet. There is no magic pill. Chiropractic marketing is hard work and whatever you do, you have to do it correctly and consistently over time.

My two favorite things…

Personally…I fell in love with two new patient sources…referrals (duh!) and the internet. The last several years that I was in practice, my patients came almost exclusively from those two sources. I did email marketing, webinars, google ads, facebook ads, website optimization, youtube videos and several other tactics to grow my practice. But what I have discovered is that most doctors don’t know how to leverage the internet and their website to help them grow their practice. And even the doctors who are interested in developing a combination online/offline marketing plan don’t have a lot of places to learn. And if you do find a place to learn…it’s either overwhelming or like many things in chiropractic, ridiculously over-priced.

Walked away…

And the truth is…I’m not even in practice any more. In 2013, I walked away from my practice and started speaking, teaching and creating patient education programs that are designed to help them get the most out of their health. I also started an online radio show called The Dr. Jerry Kennedy Show where I dive into the world of health, fitness and diet. My mission isn’t to teach people about chiropractic but to teach people how their body works and how to maximize their health. I believe that chiropractic is a part of that and if the average person understood how their body works…making chiropractic a part of their life would just make sense.

Black Sheep DC…

But I love chiropractic and everything it stands for. Chiropractic has changed my life. And over the years many of my chiropractic friends have called me to pick my brain about ways to use a combination of offline and online marketing  tools for growing their practice. So I decided that I wanted to do something to help more of my fellow chiropractors and I created Black Sheep DC.  No…this is not some new fangled coaching program. I’m not the next guy who’s trying to go around creating a bunch of my own chiropractic minions. Black Sheep DC is designed to provide young and frustrated chiropractors simple and effective marketing systems for their practice.

More time for life…

I know exactly how much time and energy goes into a successful chiropractic practice and how easy it is to allow the DC life to take total control of your time and focus. This is why it is so important for the average chiropractor to implement as many affordable offline and online marketing channels that DO NOT take any more of your precious time and will never require you beg for patients outside of a Walgreens. (Unless of course, you are into that sort of thing.)
